gradenko surfaced in 2001 as an outlet for me to explore songwriting. This led to making strategic, modest improvements to my studio sublevel9 in order to capture sounds the way I heard them in my head. Over the course of the last several years, gradenko has logged hundreds of hours in the studio-- writing, recording, moulding, rewriting, re-thinking and re-recording songs and 'scapes. gradenko is currently re-tooling, and doing more re-thinking... When asked what gradenko sounds like, the key influences I must cite are The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells', The Police/Stewart Copeland, Brian Wilson, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Flaming Lips, The Legendary Pink Dots, Elliott Smith, Kinski, Green Milk from the Planet Orange, and most recently Deerhoof. In fact, Deerhoof completely derailed me -- in terms of new music, for my money look no further. Simply brilliant.
